getting ready

Good morning all, I ran a good 8 miles this morning taking 1 hour and 43 minutes (7:12 - 8:55).
Yes it was slow but hey it's Christmas. Thank God I found a training program to prepare me for Gasparilla. I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, don't eat too much and let's remember the reason for the season which is Jesus Christ our Lord.

round and round

Running on the Brandon High track was interesting. Going around 26 times (6.5 miles for that day) I thought that I was going to go crazy; at the end of it, not bad at all. A good friend of mine accompanied me around the track even though he ran about a lap and a half. My goal was to see how many times that I could lap him. I finished my cool down lap right before the rain started; talk about perfect timing. The Lord kept it dry for me so that I could finish running :)

great run

I had a great run this evening. I started out faster than expected but I kept the pace. I even sprinted the last 200 yards. It's all fun and games until a ferrel cat wants to attack you, LOL. Everyone have a God filled night's rest.

Greetings

I pray that everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving now for the dash to Christmas (pun intended :) ).
One of my neighbors made me laugh because while running she commented that I was making everyone look bad. We have to work off the turkey some how; have a blessed day.

2 Philly runners pass

I came across this article:

My thoughts and prayers goes out to the families; may the Lord be with them in their time of loss.

week 3

Good afternoon, so far so good with the training. One thing that I have learned is that you must stretch especially your shins before you run. One day last week I was too lazy and didn't stretch and while running I had to "warm up" while running. That doesn't make any sense but that's what happened. May the Lord continue to have a blessed day.

Let the training begin!

Good morning my good people, this evening I will begin my training for the upcoming Gasparilla half marathon. I was able to find a pretty good training program online, here is the link:

Lord willing it will all go well.

WOOOAAAH!

Good morning all the Revolution has begun (inside joke). Anyway it was great to see us black folks out running today. It may have been just 6 of us: 3 men (1 was a senior) and 3 women (1 was a senior) but at least we got out there. Lets' keep up the good work. It was interesting to see all the cyclist out there too; God bless.

a little further

Hello all, I got out of work a little early tonight and decided to go for a jog instead of waiting until Saturday. I ran a little over 5k. I am conditioning myself for the Gasparilla marathon next year Lord willing.

back in the saddle

Howdy all, it's been a month since I ran. I did a 5k today taking ~ 34 minutes. You would think since I have a stop watch that I would use it to properly time myself...NAH maybe next time, lol. Thank God of course. P.S. Today is the last day of my p90x. It has been great and I plan on letting it be a part of my daily routine.

15k and feeling great

Well, maybe my knees are sore but what an accomplishment. First and foremost I have to thank my Savior Jesus Christ for giving me the thought to even do this. I have to thank Brother Ahmed for pushing me because Lord knows that I wanted to QUIT! It was a beautiful day and the fellow runners and crowd were great. If I plan on running the half marathon I need to start training now but I am going to take a week of from all exercise. Five Guys here I come, lol.

95 years old and breaking many records

Hello again, the countdown continues to Saturday. It's going to be a great day Lord willing. Hopefully the bay won't smell like it does sometimes. Then again if it does I guess that I have to run faster (LOL). I saw this story on Yahoo and thought that I would share it.

it's getting close

Tuesday night I put in another 1 1/2 hours of running around the house. I had developed a knot at the top of my right foot that wasn't painful but aggravating. By doing Yoga X last night I was able to alleviate most of the tension. I plan on taking it easy so that my foot can heal before next Saturday Lord willing.

2 weeks to go

I decided to not brave the cold this morning and ran indoors (around the house) for 1 1/2 hours. I have decided to step up my training for Gasparilla to 3 times per week Lord willing.

He read my mind!

My pastor delivered an excellent teaching yesterday about grasshoppers. As I prepare to run the 15k in Gasparilla I see long distances as some what of a giant in the way. Running 18.3k this past Saturday I proved to myself that it was just a grasshopper that I to crush. Yes it was painful and I didn't run the best time but I was able to finish. My pastor gave us a Bible verse that I thought I would share.

Isaiah 46:10 (New King James Version)

10 Declaring the end from the beginning,

His illustration showed us that as we line up at the starting line the Lord shows us crossing the finish line. He tells us that we can make it but He never said that our way will be without obstacles. This is similar to the children of Israel as they were getting ready to enter the promised land. The Lord told them that it was theirs for the taking but they were fearful because of the giants in the land.

Numbers 13 (New King James Version)

DIG IT!

Howdy folks, well I made an interesting discovery this past week. I found out that I was running less than a 15k; it was more like 12k. Well today I decided to redeem my self by not only running 15k but like a crazy man I ran 18.3k. I can truly say that I am ready (almost :) ) for Gasparilla. My time was 2 hours and 16 minutes.

AAGGHH!!

Well I ran a little more (1/4 mile) than 15k and it feels great. I was dogging it (1 1/2 hours) :)
P90X is a great asset to my training. Thank God!

pulled the trigger

Well I signed up for the Gasparilla 15K run (finally). Lord willing there will be great weather.

new year, new you

Howdy, well I haven't run since my last posting :( instead I have started P90X on January 3. I haven't given up on my goal but I believe that P90X will be able to help me be a better runner. I was having slight knee pain but Lord willing on Saturday when I run again it will be gone; God bless.
