Running the Connector 5k

Well, well, well, who says that Florida doesn't have any hills.  FDOT decided to do a grand opening 5k run of the new Crosstown Connector.  What I think is funny is that I had seen pictures of the ramp and I figured that it wasn't too bad.  Oh the horror (LOL) I thought that the ramp wouldn't end.  What's even funnier is that it was uphill BOTH ways, we ran up the ramp, downward, turned around and ran upward again.  I did it in 29:13, I had fun.  I am making a call to the brothers to come on out; there were just a handful of us but the sisters showed up; Black Girls Run had a great showing.  Also I find it funny that once again a senior just cruises past me, I admired her colorful purple socks, LOL.  Well everyone have a blessed New Year.

Training with my wife

Howdy hope everyone had a blessed Christmas.  I had the pleasure of running with my wife this morning.  We did a run/walk on a new route: 2.77 miles in a time of 31:28.  I shall rest for the Crosstown Connector 5k on Saturday; God bless :)

All I want for Christmas...

Good morning, well the big day is almost here and what better way to prepare than to go for a morning run.  I know we tend to relax during the holiday season but hey my reasoning is if I continue to run/exercise I won't feel guilty for eating all of that yummy food ;)  I ran 3.72 miles in 33:00.  Have a Merry Christmas, put one foot in front of the other and remember that Jesus is the reason for the season :)

Its' brisk out there_11/27/13

Greetings, this is a re-post from 11/27/13.  I wanted to get a run in before Thanksgiving so out I went.  Man it was rather brisk out there.  I got the "enjoyment" of running with and against the wind along with a below average temperature.  Time 2.93 miles in 28:45.

From breeze to hot air

Merry Christmas everybody, the weather was great yesterday so I decided to take a run after church.  On the way out I had a "nice" head wind that kept me cool.  A fellow runner replied "It's hot isn't it?" I replied yes sir, not paying attention to what he asked me.  On the way back is where the heat wave began.  There wasn't any breeze not even a hot breeze.  Considering I hadn't jogged in about a month it was tiring but I made it.  I ran 3.85 miles in 38:09. I wish every one a Merry Christmas, stay safe and remember Jesus is the reason for the season; God bless! :)

wow that hurt...

Howdy, man because I didn't stretch enough from running on Tuesday my legs were ACHING.  But God made a way and I was able to drop a minute off of my time: Tuesday 29:41, today 28:40:84.  Note, I used my stopwatch instead of my phone to track my time, I ran the same distance though.  Push through the PAIN :)

I'm baaaack!

Greetings good people, the running season has "started" once again. It must be just me because my body was protesting from lack of exercise.  I took last week off and I'm aching like I'm starting over.  Good news is that I ran 3.16 miles in 29:40.  Considering I took the summer off from running, except the occasional mile here and there, I am happy with myself; thank you Lord of course :)

oh the harraaagh

Hello folks, I haven't cycled or run in a while so I went out today since the rain skipped my area.  Man I felt like I did my worst.  I biked 3.60 miles in 24:02 minutes.  I'm going to put on my big boy shorts and look forward to Saturday Lord Willing.  I also tried out a new app called runtastic, so far so good.

so now it won't rain

I meant to blog last night but it just slipped my mind.  I didn't want to go riding yesterday and was hoping that it would rain.  After looking at the sky and seeing sunshine I decided to head out.  It was a short ride just 5.53 miles in 31:35; then the light bulb went off.  How cool would it be if I could get in a 30 minute ride everyday; hmm; have a God filled day! :)

oh the pain

Greetings, I often ask myself WHY?! Since I haven't ridden for a few days I decided to put on my explorer hat and see what I could find. I rode thru an entire neighborhood not to far from me; I kept making right turns to see if I could find any dead ends. None were found because there were huge turning circles at the end of the cul-de-sacs.  I tell you what, I need to upgrade my seat STAT. Let's just say that I better stretch before bed or else :) I rode 11.23 miles in 1:07:38; when I start running again this would make a great route; thank you Lord.

running late

Greetings, well I was suppose to blog this on 7/11 but time just slipped by; NAH I was being lazy.  I biked 4.46 miles in 24:13; thank you Lord :)

just keep haulin'

Man, it hasn't rained in the area (sporadic rain) for a few days now.  Since the 4th of July was last week I decided to slack off.  When I arrived home yesterday I was determined to bike and run or was I?  I took a look at the sky and it seemed like it was raining somewhere and I figured that I can do what I needed to do; so what if I got wet. I biked 3.87 miles in 19:18 minutes.  Hmm I thought, I rode a little less and was slightly slower.  I felt like I was riding fast but who knows I may have had a tail wind in both directions.  I ran ~ 1 mile in ~ 8:00 minutes. My 2 cents, when in doubt bike/run for the Lord. :)

it's getting easier...

Well, I was able to get my cycling under 20 minutes (3.92 miles in 19:16).  I was able to stay in high gear all of the way.  The 1.01 mile in 7:47 run was somewhat funny because I bolted out of the gate but after the first quarter mile I was wondering why I had done that.  Lord willing on Thursday I'm going to run first then bike; this is going to be interesting.

let's explore

Well it's better late than never, I biked 5.35 miles in 30:43 through a new neighborhood; thank you Lord and good night!

let the games begin...

This past Saturday the Lord allowed me to see some of the Xterra games on tv.  At first I was really excited because I thought that it was a biathlon but to my chagrin there's swimming involved (triathlon).  I was dismayed for about two seconds then I thought that I should start training for a biathlon; I can always learn to swim.  This is the first time that I rode my bike and immediately ran afterwards, my legs felt like jello but it was all good.  Today I biked 3.75 miles in 21:00 exactly an improvement of 1:37, praise the Lord and cycled 1.05 miles in 7:44 :) God is good all the time and all the time God is good :)

back at it...

Greetings, well I'm beginning a new phase of runblackmanrun, I will add biking to the mix.  The Lord led me to a a site called trifind.com and to my amazement there are tons of bi & triathlons going on all over the place.  I thought it would be interesting to train for a biathlon.  A triathlon would be even better but one small caveat, I must learn how to swim better than I can now.  So for today I rode my regular route of 3.75 miles in a time 22:36.  So far my legs feel great; bike riding is so much easier than running but can't replace my first love; thank you Lord :)

I've fought the fight, finished the race...Now I'm tired

ALL praise goes up to the Father in Heaven. Well good people it was a good journey but it has come to an end.  I planned on running the marathon on June 29 but decided to push it up because my schedule was cleared today.  Would I run another marathon, ehh 51% no; I want to get into biking now.  While running I remembered that this is Memorial weekend so in essence I was running in memory of our great American soldiers past, present and future that keep us safe; a BIG thank you and salute from the bottom of my heart!

hello ms.cow & mr rabbit

Greetings, thank the Lord for the rain but I was almost discouraged because I thought that I wasn't going to be able to run this evening.  Low and behold  by the time I arrived home the sun was out and it had cooled down nicely.  My journey this evening took me to the end of the sidewalk, down to SR 54 and back home.  I was pleasantly surprised that I ran an average of 9.43 minutes/mile; total distance of 10.65 miles in 1:43:32; thank you Lord :)

Just when I started having fun...

Greetings, another lovely evening to go for a run.  I think I have found a circuit for my full  marathon.  It was awesome to have drivers stop when they fully had the right of way to let me run by; that's what I call God's grace :)! I ran 8.64 miles in 1:29:00 with an average pace of 10.18 min/mile; I'm so happy that I was able to keep my pace within the 10 minute parameter; all the glory goes to the Lord above!  I wanted to keep going because I was drinking enough water and my body was getting into the zone but alas it was getting dark and my wife called looking to see where I was.

around in circles, ugh no!

Greetings,  if I discipline my body it will eventually listen.  Before I went running this evening I worked out; turned out to be a pretty good idea.  Usually before I run I try to "conserve" as much energy as possible; now I realize that I don't have to do that. I tried to talk myself into doing 2 laps around the neighborhood but changed my mind because it reminds me about the times that I run around a track how boring it can be. So I did 1 lap, ran up to the end of Collier (not the end of the sidewalk) and back to base equaling 6.39 miles with an average pace of 10:14.  Thank the Lord :)

the 5lb yipper

Greetings, you have to give it too the small breed dogs for being persistent.  One decided to run with me for half a block.  I was thinking, careful before I take you home; then again I would promptly return him as soon as I had to clean up after him, LOL. I really want to start running 3x a week again.  Instead of doing 3 miles on Tuesdays and Thursdays; I'm shooting for 5 miles.  Today I ran a distance of 5.13 miles in a time of 53:39.  One laughable note, my camel back started to leak and instead of stopping and adjusting the cover I kept going; and yes it did look like I peed myselft; LOL. Thank you Lord for being able to laugh at myself :)

1/2 marathon in the bag

AHH, THANK YOU LORD, my 1/2 marathon is in the bag, considering the last time I ran I did 3.78 miles. It all starts in the mind and asking the Lord to help you along the way :)

in rememberance!

First and foremost thoughts and prayers to those who were hurt and killed at today's Boston Marathon.  May the Spirit of the Lord bring comfort to those that are hurting. All it takes is a coward(s) to ruin a good event.  Okay, now that I'm off of my soapbox my 3.78 mile @ 38.29 minutes run to the end or Collier was pretty good.  My "fan club" was out this evening and that's always a plus :)

ah the fresh smell after a rain fall

Greetings, I thought that I was going to skip running today but when I stepped out of the office at 4:50 I was greeted by the sun.  I put on my explorer hat and sought a new route to run.  There's a new subdivision just to the north of where I live and I wanted to see what it was all about.  I ran 4.13 miles with a time of 42:26 on my loop and it was really enjoyable with low humidity, slightly overcast skies and new homes under construction.  Yes I have a sweet tooth for the building industry; good night and God bless.

Tuesday, April 2, 2013

well that was worth it

Good evening, my experiment of doing Insanity Pure Cardio instead of running has ended. The result is negligible. I planned on running 10 miles this past Saturday but I didn't. I planned on running early in the morning before work but I couldn't pass up earlier this evening.  I ran 3.54 miles with a time of 34:25, next up let's see if my legs are sore in the morning; God bless!

all right!

While listening to the Dave Ramsey Show today he was talking about setting goals. Yes it can be hard and one may one to quit but I say... DON'T DO IT!!! Fight through that pain and finish the race that is set before you.  It doesn't necessarily have to be running, it can be anything. The Word says that I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me.  I didn't realize that I ran my best 5k last Thursday (3.16 miles in 30:26).
Today I ran 3.23 miles in 29:48! Praise God for that. I didn't feel like running this evening, I figured that it would ran but still dry.  A member of my fan club was glad to see me, he tells his dad "There he is"; that's makes me feel good!

i forgot

Thanks Sister Talbert for reminding me about the Suncoast trail which is great for running if one doesn't want to deal with traffic :)

getting back into the groove

Good evening, I haven't run on a Thursday in a while but I couldn't pass up the good weather. I went around the neighborhood in 30:26, distance of 3.16 miles at a pace of 9.36 min/mile.  Lord willing I'm going to try and get more days of the week in instead of just Saturdays; God bless :)

run thru the pain

Wow, I'm real late doing my post but better late than never.  I ran 8.27 miles in 1:24:34.  I felt that I could have gone further but I had to run some errands.  The Lord has given us some amazing bodies in that we can do anything through Him!

round and round I go

Howdy, since I was at church this morning I figured I would go to the Brandon High School track for a little run.  The temperature warmed up nicely and there was a nice breeze.  I set out to run six miles today but according to my tracker I ran 6.55 miles in 1:07:51; the Lord carried me round and round the track; lol.

new route

Good evening, well I decided to run a different route this afternoon.  I didn't feel like run (what else is new) but I couldn't let the great weather pass me by.  I ran 4.22 miles in 36:44.  What's interesting is that I ran a pace of 8:42 min/mile which is my fastest since I've been using MapMyRUN; thank you Lord :)

Saturday, January 19, 2013

yet... a little farther

Good evening, it's funny how easy it is to quit.  While running I felt a cramp move from my right side to the left, to my thighs then my knees.  I chose to ignore the cramp and keep pushing.  I planned on running 4 miles but ran 5.31 in 50:35 instead, the Lord is good :)

Saturday, January 12, 2013

a little farther...

Good morning good people, for my second run for the year I jogged down to my neighbor's house at the end of the block and returned; too bad my app didn't record the map but it did keep the time.  I ran ~3.15 miles with a time of 29:36; have a blessed day :)

HAPPY 2013

Good afternoon, well it's the start of a new year and new goals. Thank the Lord for allowing me to see a new year.  I just finished my first run of the year which was thru the neighborhood; 2.98 miles.  I started using an app for my phone by the name of mapmyrun; not bad.  Have a blessed day everyone! p.s time to put some miles on these.
